Methodist Church of Fiji has advised people to refrain from drinking excessively during the Christmas period as the consequences do tend to be disastrous as shown in the number of stabbing cases so far as a result of drinking parties.
This is the view of Assistant General Secretary, Rev Tuikilakila Waqairatu who said that drinking has an effect on not only you, but your family and friends as well.
The Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji also questions the excessive consumption of liquor during the Christmas season.
Sabha's President Kamlesh Arya said religious organizations should now take a stand on the issue as excessive consumption of liquor usually leads to assault, rape cases and stabbings.
This comes after a number of stabbing incidents have occurred during this Christmas period.
