The interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama has stressed that the reforms stated in the draft People's Charter will be implemented before the next elections.

Commodore Frank Bainimarama said there have been constitutional changes in 1990 and 1997, and it can be done again.

When questioned by Fijivillage on how the electoral and constitutional reforms would be implemented, Commodore Bainimarama said only time will tell.

"I want to say that the 1997 Constitution came into being without one being already there.  There are a hundred ways to skin a cat. We did what we did on the 5th of December so that we can have reforms and we are going to have those reforms before elections. All reforms need to be done before elections."

Bainimarama said majority of the people in the country also want the development or upgrading of their infrastructure more than rushing into the next general elections.

"They really care little for election out there. They want development – fix their roads up, put in electricity, the water – that’s what they want. They (are) not really interested in elections – even though we want elections – even though we should have elections."
