Serious concerns have been raised after a referee was allegedly punched by two players during Rewa soccer association’s local soccer league competition two weeks ago.

Nausori Police have confirmed that the matter was reported by the referee and the two players have been interviewed and released.

Rewa soccer association President, Nazeel Buksh said they have suspended their local league games and are doing a review of a number of things including the security presence at the games.

He said they are doing their own investigation and the players involved may get a life ban.

It is alleged the players rushed to the referee and punched him as they were not happy with how the match was being controlled by him.

The Fiji Football Association is expected to comment on the matter later today.
