The meeting between the Commonwealth Envoy Sir Paul Reeves and Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama is expected to take place today after Reeves arrived into the country last night.

He is here for a two-day visit to hold talks with the government and key stakeholders on Fiji's situation.

Commonwealth Secretary General Kamalesh Sharma said he welcomes Bainimarama's invitation for a delegation to visit Fiji and fully supports this opportunity for Reeves to engage with the government to promote an early restoration of constitutional democracy.

He said Reeves will explore opportunities for continued Commonwealth engagement in support of an inclusive and time bound national political dialogue, to facilitate the return of constitutional democracy.

The Commonwealth Secretariat said Reeves will meet with Bainimarama and other senior functionaries of the government.

It said Reeves also hopes to meet other key stakeholders.

Before leaving for Fiji, Reeves said that he hopes good sense will prevail but he hinted that we may be heading for the long haul.
