Commonwealth Special Envoy Sir Paul Reeves has shown his eagerness to assist in reviving the President Political Dialogue forum when he met members of the charter committee of the National Council for Building a Better Fiji this afternoon.
Committee member Reverend Akuila Yabaki said they were asked how the Commonwealth can assist Fiji at this stage and they have suggested that the best way forward is through the Political dialogue forum.
However, Yabaki said the Commonwealth delegation did raise its concerns on the decision to hold elections in 2014.
Sir Paul Reeves also stressed to the Charter committee that Fiji at this stage is suspended from the Commonwealth group and not expelled and assistance to help return to constitutional democracy will be forthcoming.
Meanwhile, there is no indication on whether Commonwealth Special Envoy, Sir Paul Reeves will meet with the political leaders in Fiji on his two day visit.
Although Sir Paul had said that he will meet with Commodore Bainimarama, some ministers and other key stakeholders, Prime Minister Bainimarama has said that former Prime Ministers Laisenia Qarase and Mahendra Chaudhry should not meet with Reeves.
Bainimarama said Qarase and Chaudhry have been writing letters to the Commonwealth to suspend Fiji and they will just confuse the situation if they are allowed to meet with Sir Paul.
Qarase has confirmed to Fijivillage News that no approach has been made by the Commonwealth officials for any meetings.
Sir Paul along with two Senior Officials of the Commonwealth Secretariat held one on one talks with Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama this morning.
Permanent Secretary for Information Lieutenant Colonel Neumi Leweni said government will issue a statement this afternoon on the outcome of the meeting.
However Commodore Bainimarama had earlier said that the whole reason for Sir Paul Reeves visit following his invitation is to give them a clear explanation on the roadmap to democracy and elections in 2014.
The Commonwealth delegation is also scheduled to meet with the Fiji Employers Federation and the Fiji Chamber of Commerce tomorrow before they leave early Friday morning.
