The Reds defeated the Crusaders 17-16 in the Super 15 rugby competition last night.

But it was referee Stuart Dickinson who stole the show when he awarded a controversial last minute penalty to the Reds.

Reds Flyhalf, Quade Cooper kicked the winning penalty when Crusaders captain Richie McCaw was controversially pinged at a ruck by referee for picking up the ball when he believed it was out.

After week 15 of competition, Reds maintains the top spot on the standings while Blues and Stormers are placed second and third.

Crusaders are placed fourth while Sharks fifth and Waratahs sixth.
