The Fiji Red Cross National Appeal gets underway nationwide today for two weeks.

The Director General Alison Cupit said the national society belongs to the people of Fiji and everyone has the responsibility to make sure that it remains well-functioned.

She said the National Appeal is not only about raising funds but giving the people in Fiji back the ownership of their national society.

The fundraiser seeks to raise funds for non donor funded programs of Red Cross and Cupit is calling on businesses, social and church groups to support Red Cross by conducting their own small fundraising and sending in their contributions.

She said the Red Cross is targeting $100,000 this year.

Meanwhile, along with the Appeal is running the Wear Red Day campaign on the 8th of May and Cupit is calling on people to wear red on the 8th to show their support for the humanitarian work of the Red Cross in Fiji and around the world.
