The Red Cross Society is not providing flood victims with food rations because it said the recent flooding in most parts of the country have not been declared as a National Disaster.
The society is currently providing flood victims with blankets and dry clothing as well as tarpaulins and water collection containers.
From yesterday they also started delivering Fiji water to evacuation centres in Nadi and Lautoka.
Society's Resource Development Manager Sylvia Low said their mandate under the Fiji National Disaster plan does not extend to the provision of food rations.
When asked if the Society has plans in the days ahead to provide people with food rations, Low said they will wait for DISMAC to confirm that recent flooding can be classed as a National Disaster.
Meanwhile, according to Low the society has received $70,000 in donations so far.
However, several foreign governments have announced that they have given direct cash assistance to the Red Cross, New Zealand has given $100,000, Australia has given AUS$150,000, the French government has donated $50,000 and Digicel Fiji has given $50,000.
The society said close to 1,000 families have been assisted so far in the Central and Western Division.
