A record turnout is expected as polling continues in the New Zealand general elections which got underway at 9 o'clock this morning.
Just under three million people are enrolled to vote and with 210,000 advance votes cast by yesterday afternoon, a third more than in 2005, a new record turnout could be on the cards.
However, as Radio New Zealand reports the weather could take its toll on voter numbers.
Meanwhile, in a bid to get youths to come out in numbers to vote, Election parties are planned around New Zealand today.
Polling at the 2700 booths end at 7pm.
Electoral officials said counting is expected to end at around mid night tonight and the results will be released soon after.
