The Interim Fijian Affairs Minister confirms that a reconstituted Great Council of Chiefs will decide on the appointment of the next Vice President.
Ratu Epeli Ganilau said the appointment will be one of the main items on the agenda when the new look GCC sits.
Although no time-frame has been set on when the next GCC meeting will take place, Ratu Epeli said work is now underway to give the final recommendations to cabinet on the 20th of next month on the new criteria for appointments to the GCC and the role of the chiefly council.
Ratu Epeli said all these steps will be taken before they move to the next stage to fulfill the commitment to the EU to appoint a Vice President as stated in the constitution.
