The National Fire Authority (NFA) is concerned with the recent reports of homes fires resulting from incorrect wiring and electrical faults.

Chief Fire Officer Tupou Saubulinayau made the comment after investigators found out that the Samabula fire which destroyed three flats over the weekend was caused by an electrical short circuit which caused the fire to break out from one of the bedrooms.

Saubulinayau said property owners need to ensure their property is thoroughly checked by an FEA certified electrical contractor to avoid fires occurring.

The NFA is calling on everyone to replace all worn, old or damaged appliance cords immediately and not to overload extension cords as well as wall sockets.

This is the second report of a fire over the weekend.

A family of three in Nadi also lost their home in a fire which is believed to have started from an electrical fault as well.
