A number of products that have been recalled for not meeting international standards and because of defects are still found on supermarket shelves in Fiji.
Consumer Council of Fiji Chief Executive Premila Kumar made the revelation at a symposium on Consumerism and Market Economies this morning.
She also provided names of certain products which were still being sold in Fiji however it was recalled in other countries due to defects.
Kumar also raised concern that laws in relation to food standard and safety are simply copied from overseas.
Meanwhile, Attorney General and Minister for Commerce Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said government is trying its best to see that all imported products have proper labeling and have adequate information about the ingredients written on it, and in a language that everyone can understand.
He said Fiji should not be used as a dumping ground.
