Blues coach Pat Lam lamented his team’s poor ball control in their 34-24 loss to the Rebels in Melbourne on Thursday.

The match was the first ever Super Rugby match held on a Thursday but sent the Blues to the bottom of the Super Rugby standings.

The Blues started the season being unbeaten in all three of their warm up matches and were tipped to win the New Zealand conference.

This fifth loss from six matches leaves the Blues with a mountain to climb if they are to qualify for the play offs in July.

Lam has been coach of the Blues in Super Rugby July 2008 season but his position will be under enormous pressure with this latest loss.

Meanwhile, at 7.35pm tonight the Hurricanes will host the Sharks, Reds will face the Brumbies at 9:40pm while Force will face the Chiefs at 11:40pm.
