The new player in the mobile phone market in Fiji, Digicel is ready for their launch tomorrow bringing with them a range of services and products for the benefit of the people of the country.
Digicel Pacific CEO Vanessa Slowey said Fiji represents Digicel's 28th launch worldwide to date and she said they will launch with competitive rates from day one as they continue preparations for their official launch tomorrow.
Slowey said people will save up to 27 percent on the Digicel network, 25 percent on text messaging, up to 27 percent on international calls and 26 percent to fixed lines, and they will also have per second billing.
She said Digicel will provide 95 percent coverage in Fiji and for the first time, people will be able to stay connected from Suva all the way to Nadi as they will have reception throughout.
Slowey said they are also talking to all the other telecommunications providers, Telecom Fiji Limited, Vodafone Fiji and FINTEL to ensure that they secure an inter-connectivity arrangement.
This would mean that people who have Digicel phones will be able to call others who are on any other of the phone networks. However, the rates may be a higher than the Digicel to Digicel phone calls.
Meanwhile, Digicel Fiji CEO John Delves said they are currently having talks with Vodafone Fiji and he is confident of an agreement on inter-connectivity by midnight tonight.
Delves also said they are confident to secure an agreement with Telecom Fiji by later this evening.
Digicel Marketing Director Pacific Niamh Byrne confirmed that the off peak rate for Digicel to Digicel calls will be 30 cents a minute while the peak rate will be 40 cents a minutes.
