He's not jogging yet but Kieran Read remains optimistic he will start in Sunday morning's Super Rugby semi final against the Stormers.
Read believes a combination of intense physiotherapy and management of his sore ankle should see him take the field at Newlands as the Crusaders chase a place in the final.
Although he has been keeping it heavily strapped, Read said the bruising was not serious and the swelling around the ankle was receding.
If Read is to be ruled out, Richie McCaw, who is returning from the foot injury that has ruled him out since the Crusaders lost to the Queensland Reds on May 29th, is likely to be at number 8 with Matt Todd and George Whitelock remaining on the flanks.
The Stormers host the Crusaders on Sunday at 3.05am.
In the first semifinal, the Reds host the Blues at 9.40pm Saturday.
