Former High Court judge and ousted Vice President Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi said the relationship between the Director of Public Prosecutions Office and the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption must be more clearly defined.

Speaking at the Fiji Law Society convention yesterday, Ratu Joni said under the constitution, the DPP has conduct of all criminal prosecutions and if FICAC is now to play a part in that process to be able to confront corruption graft directly, then there must be a demarcation of responsibilities.

He said FICAC risks becoming a law into itself with few checks into its considerable powers. Ratu Joni also said that FICAC is unconstitutional and should be disbanded on the understanding that is proper establishment would be the priority of an elected government.

Meanwhile, Interim Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum said they are working according to the mandate set out by the President Ratu Josefa Iloilo and he said there is nothing new from the statement delivered by Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi.

Army spokesman Major Neumi Leweni echoed similar sentiment saying whatever Ratu Joni said is insignificant to the RFMF.
