Foreign Affairs Minister, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola has presented a proposal to his Japanese counterpart for Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama to visit Japan as the Minister responsible for Sugar.

In a meeting with his Japanese counterpart, Ratu Inoke said that as part of Fiji's sugar reforms, the visit in 2014 would allow a delegation from Fiji to observe the Okinawa Sugar Industry, as part of efforts to capture all the best practices and experience of countries with sugar industries similar to Fiji.

Japans Foreign Affairs Minister Fumio Kishida agreed that relevant officials from both countries should coordinate closely with each other to ensure issues are concluded.

Meanwhile, Ratu Inoke has outlined the democratization process in Fiji to Kiyama Shigeru, the Vice President of JICA in Japan.

He reassured JICA that elections will take place no later than 30th September 2014.

The talks were held in Tokyo.
