Former national sevens rugby speedster Alipate Ratini has confirmed his availability for the prestigious World Cup 7s in Russia.

The 22-year-old former Lelean Memorial school student who was just 6 years old when Fiji won its first world cup 7s title in 1997 has told Fijivillage it would be a dream come true if he gets the nod for the Moscow trip.

Ratini added fitness is not a problem for him as he has been doing the hard yards in training.


The Wainimakutu flyer also says he is yet to decide whether he will also vie for the Fiji Bati jumper in this year’s Rugby League World Cup.

Ratini came into the country on Saturday and will fly out to Australia this afternoon to continue his contract with Australia’s Rugby League Club the Cronulla Sharks 

Other overseas based players who have declared their availability to play for Fiji in the rugby world cup sevens include Metuisela Talebula, Seremaia Burotu, Joeli Lutumailagi and Nikola Matawalu.

Meanwhile, Fiji rugby union national coaching director Frank Boiver said overseas based players will be called in once the selectors and the coaches identify the weaknesses in the national sevens team.
