The never ending non-payment of arrears is becoming a serious issue for the Suva City Council.
Lord Mayor Ratu Peni Volavola said this is a concern to the council and people should realize that there are services to be provided and this can only be done through the payment of arrears.
Volavola said a taskforce team has been appointed and has been in existence for the past 5 years to tackle this problem and they are finding it difficult to collect rates.
In a press statement released, Volavola stated that in the arrears portfolio, there is more than 10 million dollars owing and strategies or action plans need to be put in place to address the issue.
