Ratepayers have now started to make arrangements to pay up their dues.
These are the words of Suva City Council Special Administrator, Chandu Umaria who said some ratepayers have come forward to make arrangements to pay up their rates.
He had earlier revealed that SCC is owed $12.8 million in rates that go back to twenty years and out of these dues, more than $7 million is being owed by those who are staying on the Housing Authority, Ministry of Lands and Native Land Trust Board Lands.
Umaria had also revealed that they are expected to enter a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Lands to speed up the process of rate collection.
Ministry of Lands Permanent Secretary, Lieutenant Colonel Neumi Leweni said they are still discussing the issue.
