All Nadi defaulting ratepayers are now being asked to pay up if they want to ensure that their town is prepared for a natural disaster.
Town Rate Clerk Suresh Chand said that in totality $2.5 million is being owed to the council and they need the money to strengthen their infrastructure as well as other plans.
Chand said that people need to realize that if they do not pay up in time, people not only have a town that is ill-prepared for a natural disaster but they may lose their homes as well.
According to the Town Council, majority of the landowners for the past 10 years have not been paying their rates and this has seen $2.5 million owed to the Council.
In their amnesty period up until the end of next month, all rate payers that come forward will be given a 30% on the amount owed to the council.
