Interim Minister for Health Doctor Neil Sharma has expressed concern at the rate of anemia and under nutrition in Schools around the country.

Sharma said after their study conducted in 2005 revealed that 34% of students were obese and under nourished, he adds this trend has increased over the past two years.

According to Sharma, the problem of under nutrition is a major problem amongst indo-Fijian students.

He also adds one of the leading causes of this trend is the fact that many kids are consuming more junk than healthy foods and fruits.

A Health Ministry survey carried out in 2006 also revealed that 82% of deaths at the CWM Hospital are due to cardiovascular diseases such as stroke, heart attack all due to unhealthy living.
