Blues centre Rene Ranger will miss the remainder of the Super Rugby season after he suffered an ACL knee injury during Saturday night's win over the Sharks.
The 29‑year‑old went down awkwardly in a tackle in the 32nd minute of the match and left the field.
He returned early from a stint with Montpellier in France's Top 14 league to join the Blues in a bid to earn a recall to the All Black squad.
The Blues will be on a bye this week.
The Highlanders will meet the Sharks at 7.35pm this Friday while the Cheetahs will face the Rebels at 9.40pm.
