The special relationship between a brother and a sister will today be celebrated through Raksha Bandhan by Hindus around the country.

It is a day when brothers' and sisters' pray for the well being and happiness of each other, and on this day brother's make a promise to their sisters to protect them from all harms and troubles while the sisters pray to God to protect their brother from all evils.

Sister's tie a silk thread called Rakhi on the right wrist and at the end of the ceremony the sister places a sweet in her brother's mouth.

Following this, brothers give sisters' a small monetary gift of appreciation.

Traditionally, Rakhis were made of interwoven red and gold threads but today's Rakhis are often decorated with multi colored silk thread, and often adorned with stones and beads.

Meanwhile, Fijivillage spoke to some brothers' and sisters' and this is what they had to say.
