Police have charged a 42 year old worker of FSC Penang mill in Rakiraki with negligent act after he allegedly tried to sabotage the operations of the mill.

The man's action caused damage to one of the machines in the mill which caused a delay in crushing.

Police Spokesperson Atu Sokomuri said the incident happened last Friday as loads of cane were delivered to the mill for crushing.

The suspect is expected to appear in court later today.

Meanwhile, FSC CEO Deo Sharan said there were not enough cane delivered to the mills which caused delay.

Rakiraki farmers have raised concern that the Penang Sugar mill has not started crushing for this season and National Farmers Union, National President Sanjit Maharaj says many farmers have already brought cane cutters from outer islands and from as far as Suva to work their cane.
