Nadi Weather Office Director Rajendra Prasad has been sent on pre-retirement leave.
Prasad finished from the Nadi Weather Office last Thursday after receiving a letter from the Ministry of Works last Tuesday.
Fijivillage has received information that Prasad received the letter directing him to go on pre-retirement leave after a workshop last week.
Prasad's retirement date is September 12th this year.
However, Works Ministry spokesperson Sainiana Waqainabete said they are only following the government regulation of asking people to finish off from their positions when they turn 55.
She said in cases where people are owed leave, they are sent on pre-retirement leave.
Waqainabete also said the Ministry is confident that there are skilled people at the Nadi Weather Office who can take up Prasad's responsibilities.
Deputy Director Alipate Waqaicelua is the Acting Nadi Weather Office Director as of last week.
