More than 200 families living in the Raiwai/Raiwaqa four storey buildings will have to look for new homes by December as the Public Rental Board stands firm by its word to evict the tenants from the Raiwai and Raiwaqa flats this year.
Chief Executive Officer, Mesake Senibulu said the board is not obligated to provide alternative accommodation for the tenants and they have given more than enough time for them to vacate the buildings since March, 2004.
The PRB has asked the tenants to move out as the four storey buildings have been declared unsafe for living. Senibulu said options have been given to majority of the tenants and they have to fork out money themselves to move to a new home since many of them earn around $100 to $150 a week.
However Fijivillage News spoke to some tenants from the four storey flats who maintain that they still want to live there.
5 four storey flats are occupied by tenants in Raiwai and 5 blocks are occupied in Raiwaqa but so far only about 100 families have vacated the buildings. More than 200 families are yet to move out.
