The rainy weather in Labasa has claimed the life of a 4 year old child and authorities are again calling on parents to be extra careful.
Police spokesperson Atunaisa Sokomuri confirmed to Fijivillage news that the girl fell from a ladder and landed in flooded waters in front of her home.
A family of Salusalu Labasa is left with nothing after all their belongings were badly damaged when flood waters entered their home early this morning.
Dalip Chand said they had to move to an evacuation center to take refuge and after assessing the damages this morning, they are not taking any chances and are now prepared to move this evening if flood water rise again.
Lovelove, Bulileka resident, Raman Lal said some 50 homes have been affected in the area and people prepare for more flooding as heavy rain has started again in the area.
Boubale Resident, Rakesh Chand said his home was under four feet of flood waters earlier today and flood water are rising again in their area. He said they are prepared to move to higher ground if the need arises.
The entire Labasa area is currently without water supply due to the power blackout experienced last night and due to several broken pipes.
Police confirm that the PWD has advised citizens that water supply should be restored in the Labasa area by tomorrow morning.
However the entire Bua and Nabouwalu areas are without water supply. In Bua the PWD says there is a burst pipe and it is not known when water will be restored.
In Nabouwalu, the dam is blocked and filled with silt. The PWD engineers are currently trying to construct a make shift dam to restore supply.
