The Ministry of Education is seriously planning to talk to school owners and management to remove institutional names that denote racial affiliations to their schools.

Education Minister, Filipe Bole, said this exercise is aligned to Pillar 2 of the People's Charter.

According to Bole the logic behind the proposal is to develop a common national identity and building social cohesion in the country.

He added the media is already calling every citizen of this country Fijians irrespective of cultural background.

However, Bole said the move will not affect schools that are named after prominent people.
