Ousted Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase has welcomed the proposal in the draft People's Charter to phase out institutional names that denote racial affiliations.
Qarase said the race based institutional names are not really needed now and the step to remove them can be taken.
Police have this morning clarified that they are not directly promoting the People's Charter but are only providing security to the public relations team that are visiting people.
Deputy Director Community Policing, ASP Anare Masitabua told Fijivillage News this morning that their main role is to see that everything runs smoothly and they are there to keep things in line in case things get out of hand or people get too emotional.
ASP Masitabua said police officers have also been provided adequate training to go out with the NCBBF's public relations teams.
Meanwhile, he has also revealed that police are there to see that law and order is maintained at all times.
