A 49 year old farmer of Rabi is admitted at the Rabi hospital after he was allegedly assaulted by two youths who accused him of practicing witchcraft.

Police Spokesperson Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said the two youths are now in custody of Rabi Police and it is alleged that the two believed that the farmer was practicing witchcraft on the island and confronted him.

Sokomuri said the confrontation led to the two youths allegedly assaulting the farmer.

Police are still questioning the two as investigations continue.

Meanwhile, quick thinking police resulted in a raid which netted 21 plants believed to be marijuana in Labasa yesterday.

Sokomuri said an Officer searched a 34 year old farmer at the Labasa market after acting suspiciously and found a packet of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

He said Police then went to the man’s farm in Siberia and found the plants which have been sent of analysis.

The farmer has been questioned and released pending investigations.
