The people of Malake in Ra have claimed that they have discovered oil from the sea during low tide.
According to villager Headman/ Turaganikoro Poasa Naimila, said he discovered the oil about six meters away from the shoreline and alerted other villagers.
Naimila added this is not the first time because it was last discovered way back in 1972.
He added Police will hold talks with villagers today for security purposes.
Meanwhile Government Spokesperson Lt Colonel Neumi Leweni has stressed that the people of Malake should inform government of the discovery.
Leweni said the Department of Lands and Minerals Resources will look into the matter.
