Quick action by the National Fire Authority saved the Office of the Commissioner Eastern yesterday afternoon in Carnavon street Suva.

The NFA received an emergency call at around 1pm after the security guard at the United States Embassy noticed smoke coming out from the building. Firefighters arrived minutes later and managed to put out the fire.

There was no one in the building at the time of the fire. The Building also houses the Ministry of Indigenous Affairs. At this stage it is believed that the fire started from an air conditioning unit as investigations get underway.

Meanwhile, the Fire Authority the incident is a good example of how an early fire call can help the NFA respond quickly and effectively.
