The Quarantine Department is still awaiting report from its task force carrying out the investigation on the new species of termites found in Lautoka.

Acting Director Ilaitia Boa said there are no reports so far whether similar sort of termites have been found elsewhere in the country apart from Lautoka.

Boa added they still await forensic report on the samples from Department of Primary Industries in Brisbane, Australia, as they expect results will be sent later this week.

He maintained presence of these termites are in Lautoka’s rural and suburban areas running from Natabua to Vitogo and so far they have identified 74 houses within that boundary that have been infested by this pest.

The government task force is led by Commissioner Western Joeli Cawaki.
