As the much anticipated trial to determine the legality or otherwise of the events of December 5th, 2006 is set to get underway in high court tomorrow, lawyer representing ousted Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase said they are not ready.

Speaking to Village news in the last hour, Tevita Fa has confirmed that he will make an application in High Court this afternoon to request that the trial date be deferred for seven days.

Fa confirms that the Queens Counsel who was expected to assist him in the trial is now engaged in another case and QC they have arranged from Australia arrives later in the week.

He said they are not ready to proceed with the trial at this stage.

However, High Court Judges presiding over the case so far, Acting Chief Justice Anthony Gates and Judge John Byrnes had earlier dismissed an application from Fa for a deferment of the trial date. They stressed that the case, which is of national interest must proceed on the specified date, which is October 2nd.
