Just days after Former Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase left to see his children and grandchildren in Australia it has been revealed that Qarase is on a fundraising tour to raise money for the SDL's legal bills.
According to the ABC News, Qarase spoke to about 30 Fijian supporters at a Brisbane Primary School Hall on Saturday night and said that his life remains under threat from the military led government.
Fijivillage had also got confirmation that Qarase had spoken at the fundraising dinner in Brisbane on Saturday night to raise funds for their legal fees for the upcoming appeal of the Qarase/Bainimarama High Court ruling.
Qarase said these events are part of a fundraising trip.
Qarase, Samisoni Tikoinasau and Peceli Kinivuwai are now on their way to Sydney for the next leg of his fundraising tour.
According to the ABC, the people who attended the fundraising event apologized to Qarase for the low turnout, saying that many people did not want to get involved as they did not want to be seen at the event.
Qarase had been granted a variation to his bail conditions by the courts after submitting an application to be able to travel to Australia to visit his children and grandchildren.
