Ousted Prime Minister, Laisenia Qarase said he cannot remember an agreement with the Methodist Church for the government to write off the 435,000 dollars debt owed by the church for repairs at the Ba Mission Hospital.
When Village questioned Qarase when and why the decision was made to write off the debts owed by the church, he said he cannot remember the details of the talks.
However Qarase said it is about time that the Ba Mission Hospital is taken over by the Health Ministry.
The Methodist Church of Fiji is calling on the interim administration to write off the 435 thousand dollars debt.
Church General Secretary, Reverend Ame Tugawe said they had made an arrangement with the ousted SDL government for the debt to be written off, and they are hoping that this would be done.
But Interim Health Minister, Doctor Jona Senilagakali maintains that the church should pay its dues as tax dollars were used to repair the Ba Mission Hospital, based on the understanding that the church would repay the amount.
