Former Prime Minister and leader of the SDL Laisenia Qarase said the other Pacific Island countries should impose travel bans on those who took over his government and those who support the interim government.
Qarase told the ABC during the SDL's fundraising event to raise legal fees for the party over the weekend that travel sanctions on the members and supporters of the interim government are good because they hurt.
Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama has maintained that the travel sanctions currently imposed by Australia and New Zealand are affecting Fiji's progress as many professionals do not want to take up positions.
Meanwhile, just days after Qarase left to see his children and grandchildren in Australia, it has been revealed that Qarase is on a fundraising tour to raise money for the SDL's legal bills.
Qarase spoke to about 30 Fijian supporters at a Brisbane primary school hall and said that his life remains under threat from the military led government.
Fijivillage has also got confirmation that Qarase had spoken at the fundraising dinner in Brisbane on Saturday night to raise funds for their legal fees for the upcoming appeal of the Qarase/Bainimarama High Court ruling.
Qarase is now in Sydney for the next leg of his fundraising tour.
