Former Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase is looking forward to travelling out of the country for the first time since December 2006 after the court today varied his bail condition.
Qarase said this will be the first time for him and his wife Leba to see their two sons and grandchildren since the events of 2006.
Director of Immigration Commander Viliame Naupoto has confirmed that Former Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase will not face any problems at the Nadi Airport when he leaves for Australia within the next few days.
Commander Naupoto said the department has followed the court order given today and Qarase's name has been removed from the immigration watch list.
Qarase who is charged with various counts of abuse of office by FICAC, had applied to vary his bail so that he could travel to Australia to visit his children and grandchildren.
FICAC did not object to the application today, stressing only that Qarase should be back in the country before the 5th of next month when his case is listed for mention.
Qarase is charged with two counts of abuse of office with regards to the extinct Mataqali funds and shares in Fijian Holdings Limited.
