Qarase First Witness at Court Case Tomorrow
Queens Counsel representing the State Gerrard McCoy revealed in court after the adjournment this morning the counsels met and were able to overcome some difficulties like wordings to amend their statements. However McCoy stated that should not in any way delay the proceedings of the case tomorrow.
McCoy said he will also call other witnesses to give evidence which he should all be completed by tomorrow followed by closing submissions.
Meanwhile Queens Counsel representing Qarase Nye Perram said they intend to underline the opening and closing address with all issues and not just a brief one within one day.
Earlier today there was a sudden change in stance by Perram as he revealed that they no longer wished to challenge the executive privileges of the President Ratu Josefa Iloilo.
Perram said they will withdraw various paragraphs in their statement of claim where they are challenging the executive privileges empowered upon the President.
Perram said they are forced to take this step because neither the President nor his personal Secretary Rupeni Nacewa or the Commander will be called into the witness box and thus will not be cross-examined and they will not be able to prove the claims in the statement by the SDL members. The case resumes at 9:30 tomorrow morning.
