Ousted Prime Minister and leader of the SDL Party Laisenia Qarase has expressed serious concern over the treatment of SDL's National Director Peceli Kinivuwai, who was prevented from leaving the country yesterday.
Speaking to FijiVillage this afternoon Qarase said the fact that authorities were not aware of the origin of a document which put Kinivuwai on the travel ban list is shocking.
Meanwhile, Kinivuwai confirmed that he met with Police today as they wanted a written statement from him to establish who wrote the letter.
Kinivuwai claimed yesterday that he was shown a letter by immigration officials in Nadi from the Ministry of Home Affairs and referenced to the Commissioner of Police Commodore Esala Teleni, putting him on the travel ban list.
Police confirmed that the letter was not written by Commodore Esala Teleni and they are now investigating how the hand written letter was obtained by Immigration Officers, which they used to stop Kinivuwai from leaving the country.
