The Qaranivalu Ratu Inoke Takiveikata's 2000 inciting mutiny retrial is set to be called for the first time in the High Court this morning.

Court officials confirmed to Village News that the retrial is now set to get underway before High Court Judge Justice Nazhat Shameem.

The matter will be called this morning and a date is expected to be set in early January for both counsels to decide on fixing a hearing date for the retrial.

Ratu Inoke Takiveikata who was charged with allegedly inciting the November 2000 mutiny was sentenced to life imprisonment earlier, however, the conviction and sentence were later quashed by the Appeals Court which ordered a retrial.

Ratu Inoke is currently remanded in custody along with 10 other men in relation to the alleged assassination plot against the Interim Prime Minister and others.
