Winning their first match in their first ever Tuckers Secondary Schools Basketball Tournament is a big achievement for the Queen Victoria School Under 19 side.

The first timers defeated one of the tournament giants Yat Sen Secondary school 30-29 yesterday.

Captain Sakiusa Sigakeigau said they were surprised to beat Yat Sen knowing they were the favourites.

Sigakeigau added one of their challenges is getting to know the rules as they are just familiar with rugby.

QVS will meet either Natabua High or Ba Provincial Freebird institute in the quarterfinals later today.

Meanwhile, two quarterfinals has been confirmed for the Under 19 boys grade - Marist Brothers High School will meet Yat Sen and LDS will face Gospel High.

In the Under 19 boys results, Ba Provincial beat Dilkusha High School 35-31, Natabua High beat Gospel 35-34 while Yat Sen won by default over Suva Grammar school.

In the Under 17 girls, Suva Grammar beat Natabua High 25-14.

In the Under 15 girls, Saint Joseph’s defeated LDS 15-6 and Suva Grammar beat Natabua 24-13.
