As political party leaders prepare to meet the Interim Prime Minister in a first round of talks, the Methodist Church of Fiji is calling on Commodore Frank Bainimarama to put the Peoples Charter aside and let talks concentrate only on holding elections under the current constitution.
General Secretary Reverand Tuikilakila Waqairatu said they are concerned with Bainimarama's statement that the leaders must understand the interim government's vision through the Peoples Charter as they enter talks. Waqairatu said the charter could become an obstacle in reaching a consensus on taking Fiji to elections.
In an exclusive interview with Fijivillage News earlier Commodore Frank Bainimarama stressed that the forum is to give the political leaders the chance to come and sit for talks on the understanding that heard and understood the court judgment and read the charter as the way forward for Fiji.
He stressed that his submission at the meeting proper will be the vision that is contained in the Peoples Charter and that is where talks should start from.
The meeting takes place at the parliament complex on Monday.
