Members of the public have been warned not to interfere with the work of officers from the Water Authority of Fiji.
This follows reports that Water Authority employees are experiencing difficulties in gaining access to some premises during the course of their duty.
In a statement, the Authority said in particular are premises that are locked or where ferocious dogs are on the loose within the compound, resulting in some customers receiving an estimation for the billed period.
The Authority has advised members of the public that their personnel have legal authority to enter into premises for the purpose of attending to services relating to the provision of drinking water between 6am and 6pm daily.
For this purpose, it is an offence to abuse, assault, chase and deny entry to any water authority meter reader or disconnection team.
Anyone found guilty of the above is liable to be sentenced to a prison term, a heavy fine or both.
