As public consultations are set to begin on the preparation of Fiji’s fourth constitution, the Chairman of the Constitution Commission said they will also be ready to hear people’s views on the 1997 constitution.

Professor Yash Ghai said the public’s view on the previous constitution is necessary.

Professor Ghai said there were many issues in relation to the formation of a multi party cabinet under the 1997 constitution and some issues were taken to the courts.

Consultations are expected to start in July.
