Jaywalking is an offence in Fiji with a fine of $10, however does everyone know what the term actually is?
Fijivillage decided to ask some people whether they knew what jaywalking is and here are their answers.
Jaywalking is the illegal or reckless pedestrian crossing of a roadway; examples include a pedestrian crossing between two intersections or outside a crosswalk, at a signalized intersection without waiting for a permissive indication to be displayed.
The Land Transport Authority said the biggest hurdle in tackling this issue is the booking of offenders which would prove difficult as almost everyone does it today which causes an identity problem.
The National Road Safety Council also said the biggest problem is enforcement however adding they are creating awareness on the issue by going out to schools and the community.
