Today is the last day for Non-Communicable Disease Week and people have been asked to benefit from free screenings and clinics organised at various supermarkets, Health Centres and hospitals by the Health Ministry.

The Ministry's NCD Officer Luisa Taito said many people have had their general check-ups done during this week, and they have also come across alot of people suffering from NCD's which consists of High Blood Pressure, diabetes, Cancer, Stroke and many other life style diseases.

She said these disease are so prevalant in society, that the Ministry after its survey has reccomended that a Healthy Workforce Policy be implemented. She said through this policy workplace whether managed by public or private enterprises, allow staff to undertake a program promoting physical activity during officer hours, regular staff meetings be established in workplaces to discuss mental health, healthty lifestyle, regular medical check-ups and food choices.

Taito said the Ministry is doing all it can to educate people how bad NCD's are, however she said it is now in people's hands to lead a healthy life.
