The Public Emergency Regulation (PER) is extended to the 6th of June.

President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau gazetted the extension according to the powers vested in him as the Head of State.

The PER has been in place since April 2009.

Meanwhile the Fiji Police deny claims that two former high ranking soldiers charged with making seditious comments are in custody.

Radio NZ reported that Police Commissioner Brigadier General Iowane Naivalurua said a report saying that he has ordered for the two men to be remanded in custody is news to him.

The Commissioner said the final decision was made by the Suva Magistrates Court in which Brigadier General Pita Driti and Lieutenant Colonel Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara were granted bail.
