State authorities have invoked provisions of the Public Emergency regulation, which is currently in place, to restrict the unnecessary use of water in the Western division where the dry weather conditions is taking its grip.
Disaster Management Center Director Pajilia Dobui said through the PER, they are urging people in the West to use water sparingly.
He stressed that while it is not a criminal offence as reported to use water for these purposes under the current circumstances, police will monitor the use of water and decide themselves on how to deal with people who are founding wasting water.
Dobui stressed that under the PER the welfare of people is paramount.
Dobui added that while people in the West are being urged to adhere to the requirements, people living in other Centers should also be mindful of the current dry weather conditions also try and refrain from watering gardens or washing cars on a regular basis to conserve water.
